Setting up Hotmail Access from your iPhone
Posted by admin on Friday Jul 3, 2009 Under iPhone TipsIf you want to set up your iPhone to enable Windows Live access to it – in particular your Windows Hotmail Inbox – here’s how you can do it. However, take note that this is a POP3 system that will not tag the inbox messages you read on your iPhone as ‘Read’. Further, you will be able to access only your Inbox folder (and not the other Folders such as Bulk, Trash, etc.) from the iPhone at the end of the day.
Here is what you have to do:
1. Go to the Add Mail Account feature. It is located at Settings -> Mail -> Add Account -> Other -> Add Mail Account.
2. Now enter the necessary details such as your name, email (Windows Live) ID, password, etc.
[If an error message to the effect of: “You have to be a Windows Live Customer to use this service … blah-blah”, comes up, simply tap on OK.]
3. Tap on Save.
4. There – you’re done. Next, you can simply go to the Mail app and start accessing / downloading your POP3 emails.
The first time, it might take some time (around five minutes or so) as the phone has to sync with your POP3 mailbox. If, in some eventuality, the phone does not automatically configure the settings with the previous steps, do the following:
You have to type in the server settings manually, and as given below –
Pop3 Server: pop3.live.com (Port: 995)
SMTP Server: smtp.live.com (Port: 25)
Advanced Settings:
Incoming Uses SSL: On
Outgoing Uses SSL: On
Authentication: Password
Delete from Server: When removed from inbox
